What do you say when you are asked about your business. Below are five points to consider.

The five Points:

Whatever you do, be it writing or having a plan to build a business, you need to start somewhere. I was asked this question a while back when I told one of my friends that I wanted to be a writer.

"is It a Business? or is it more of a hobby?"

I think he asked a good question, trouble was I didn't have such a great answer.

My answer: well, hmm, I think it is both, because I am not sure where to go from here. I love to make money with my writing, and I want to be published somewhere, someday. So I suppose i need to be a business.

Now I do...

Here is what I say right now to a question like that:

1) I want to start somewhere. I want to be a writer who makes money, but does not give all that much to teh goverment in taxes. A small business does just that.

2) it is an extention of the work I do.

3) I enjoy the challenge of building a business. My business is writing, and writing is my business. When I make money with it, I want to know how to protect this money. I want to be able to save it and to build my business with it.

4) I can always expand, or if it begins to slow down, I still have the option of doing extra work on the Internet.

5) I can do my own thing. Of course my own thing is writing, and that is a starting point for me. I can be a funny writer and build my work from there. I can expand in ways that any other job (a day job!) might not allow me to do.

What are your reasons?

I think any writer needs to think about building a business. You can make money with your writing. I think it is a shame that writers think they need to straving, because you don't need to.

Just find a reason that makes you want to build your business. I found wikinut. It has helped my writing.

Its good to start something new. Motivation and consistency can be a really good factor.

Gong from hobby to business venture is a huge step. Best of luck in your quest for publication.
