So, who is your favorite serial entrepreneur? Do you have any names to add to the list?

Global Entrepreneur in The World

According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report in 2011, 20% of Americans believed entrepreneurs have good opportunities in the U.S.

Today, the figure has increased to 43%. Also, 56% of adults said that they are confident and they now have the ability to start a business.

That's good news!

But, these statistics are for entrepreneurship. Serial entrepreneurship is a bit different. Typical entrepreneurs start a company to execute an idea and manage the daily operations. They play a key role in growing the company.

But serial entrepreneurs start a venture to execute an idea and, once they have established the company, hand over the responsibility to someone else and move on to another business and idea.

Thus, they face more repeated challenges than entrepreneurs which make them iconic.
So, who are the top American serial entrepreneurs built the most number of successful companies and what do their empires look like? Let's find out.

Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey is a media leader and philanthropist. She is well known for her epic talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.

She started her career as a local TV anchor and founded Harpo Productions Inc. in 1986. This company owned the rights to her famous talk show from 1988 and it laid the foundation for her entrepreneurial ventures.

Winfrey became the wealthiest woman in the media and entertainment industry in the late 1990s. Since then, she has founded many successful companies, including Oxygen, a cable station, and the Oprah Winfrey Network.

She also wrote five books and she publishes the “O, The Oprah Magazine.”

• America's largest automotive dealer, AutoNation

All three are Fortune 500 companies.

He also played a key role in building six successful NYSE-listed companies and has owned three sports franchises.

Josh Kopelman
Josh Kopelman is another great serial entrepreneur who is famous for building revolutionary online businesses.

His first company Infonautics Corp went public in 1996. He then started Half.com for used books and gadgets, which was acquired by eBay within one year.

TurnTide, an anti-spam system, was another venture by Kopelman. Symantec Corp bought it within six months!

Currently, he is leading the seed-stage VC firm, First Round Capital, and has made investments in companies like StumbleUpon and Mint.com.
