Struggle on Cavendish Banana Industry in Davao Region, Philippines

Cavendish Banana industry suffers a lot in Davao Region in terms of markets, maintain their farm to help many families, many individuals loss their job, and the interrelated businesses. Government should find some way to help to this dilemma to solve before its too late.

Cavendish banana farms in Davao Region struggling until now, many farms are abandon due to market acceptance of their fruits and farmers now suffered due to no buyers wants to buy bananas due to the strict acceptance on the importing countries, in connection to that they even chopping their harvestable fruits and most of the affected families are the lower level manpower (laborer, harvester, packers and etc.). They could not support their families in terms of (financial needs) foods, shelter, and education. They now have more debts rather than income and could not apply regularly farm inputs (such as fertilizers, chemical disease spray, and etc.). Even the salary of their manpower because more of the exporters who buys from them do not have regular buyers. Some exporting countries regulations are very strict and some of farm cultural practices could not meet their quality specifications. For now, they really need the support of the government agency especially Department of Agriculture for the farm inputs support and technical assistance, Department of Trade and Industry to find alternative markets who can absorbs the volumes of these growers and farmers. Or any of the exporting country could help these Davao Region farmers to sustain their farms and to help the banana industry remains.

Oh, that is very bad state of affair prevailing there as far as Cavendish Banana Industry is concern! I hope Government will provide some alternate jobs for the workers involved in this business! Thanks !

yes good idea, that is already implemented long time ago but some of people here are crab mentality and a lot of conflict of interest.
