In's and Out's of an Avon Rep. Highs and lows. Struggles and successes.

From The Start

Oct 2011 I met a very fun and ambitious lady when I was trying to make new friends in Suffolk living with my Then fiancé and his mother. I had been suffering with depression due to the failing relationship between me and my future husband. So was trying to find something or someone to distract me from problems at home.
Myself and the ambitious lady got talking and she let me know about how she was making a life for herself and her family running her own small business from home! Ears pricked up at the sound of this and soon we met up.

I had done Avon once before years ago but wasn't sure if I could cope as I was trying to run my own companies online, work 2 jobs and suffering with depression. After chatting about how to go bout it, feeling inspired, giving my ideas on how she could gain customers or potential reps I did want to get into it. But I asked if I could think about it. Just to let my head slow down from things I seem to be piling onto myself.

After getting home from work that evening, lay on my bed - single bed in separate room - I text my ambitious lady and said yes, I would do it!

Wasn't Easy

I signed up and got my starter pack and roads allocated to me. Off I went! Feeling full of high hopes, I soon found that many of the homes I went to had been upset by many reps who started n soon left, leaving them with no order n books not collected! I wanted to change this and it wasn't easy! After my 4th brochure collection I had a couple of orders, all be it small but they was there!
But I had a feeling, wanted to deny it but knew it was coming, my relationship was dead and so we ended the misery. So my small business I was starting to take pride in, had to stop.
I moved in with a friend and let my customers know I was leaving soon. As many of the last reps never let customers know they was not continuing the rounds, they was left flat and upset. I wanted to be different so they was told of my departure all being unwilling.

Starting From Scratch - Again!

After a few months of getting ready to move and settling down with family, personal grievance and lack of a job, I eventually got in touch with the Area Sales Manager (ASM) and told her my situation and that I wanted to get started again. She met with me at home and we chatted about my options. I wasn't keen on selling around my area as it's known for being violent and corrupt. So if I could sell another way I would take it. I needed to gain a stable customer base so had some roads allocated to me.
I also started Sales Leadership. This is where I sign up and train new Reps into my team and gain commission from their sales as well as my own and bonuses from hitting targets. With no other job, it was ideal! My imagination went on overdrive!

After hitting targets, gaining bonuses and even being awarded for quickest progress for trainee sales leader locally, I was very humbled and excited I was on my way to greatness!

Another Set Back

After being with Avon for over a year, Qualifying as Sales Leader and having 10 in my team, things started to fall apart. Reps were either not placing orders, not talking to me so I could help them or had not paid balance off. I was also struggling to gain leads and sign new reps each month. After 4 months of failings and being down to 6 reps, 4 only placing orders, I was at my lowest. Bills were mounting, taken on a cleaning job which was my main and only income. I just needed to have a bit of a break from it all! So I gave up my Sales Leadership and my Team. I couldn't afford the books for reps I wasn't signing up.

Brand New Start

Now I am just an ordinary rep, who is planning her targets well, drumming up online selling and trying to support other independent businesses online as well as supplying beauty therapists with discounted products they can use and sell to their clientele earning a commission. I have found this side of it can be a much greater potential for all involved. Gaining more sales, support and grow together. I haven't been so enthused and happy in such a long time.... Has been nearly a month now and I still haven't come down from this intoxicating high! Long may it continue...
