Secretary's Blues

A poem of a working mother who would much rather be home in a more domestic role.

Secretary's Blues

I’m tired of my corporate life
My busy, scheduled days,
I just want to be a mother and wife
And get out of the corporate maze.

I really do care about equal rights,
But, I’d like to keep mine at home.
If my husband’s “bread-winning” could reach new heights,
I could return to my domestic dome.

I miss being with my kids,
I miss picking them up after school.
But, the business just put out three new bids,
For computers, drafting and tools.

I’d like to be able to have supper prepared
When my tired man walks in the door,
And to tell him the news of the “soaps” that have aired,
And what specials I found at the store.

I’d love to be able to meet all the girls
At the mall and spend the day shopping,
I’d love to be able to splurge on new ‘curls’
And maybe some ice cream bar hopping.

I’d really like out of this business sphere,
Yes, I’m tired of my corporate seat,
But, untill a change to nourishment’s found,
My family will still have to eat.
