The last five years we've experienced an explosion of the use of mobile devices in the construction industry. As the iPad became more common at construction sites developers were creating a wide variety of apps to make any job easier.

The Evolution of the iPad's Use

Over the course of the last five years, Apple has revolutionized the mobile device industry by creating and advancing both the iPhone and the iPad. These devices can be beneficial for nearly every business, but for the construction industry there are multiple iPad applications that are highly useful.

Recommended Apps

There are numerous construction centered applications that are available for purchase and download, some of my favorites are:
Carpenter's Helper: You can use this application to perform normal, roof, and unit calculations. There are two versions, Professional and Lite, with the Pro version containing upgraded conversion and memory bank features.
Concrete Calculator: This application makes it easy to calculate the amount of concrete needed for circular slabs, square or rectangular slabs, and concrete columns.
SmartBidNet: This application allows the user to maintain subcontractor and vendor information on the iPad mobile device. It is used in conjunction with the SmartBidNet management software.
Onsite Plan Room: Utilizing this application, users are able to view documents and PDF plans from their iPad, share plans and documents wirelessly with others, and maintain correspondence in regards to construction plans. Users have found this app valuable because it eliminates the need for constantly carrying drawings around a site.
ID Wood: A favorite of both Bob Villa and the iTunes Staff, this application provides a reference for users needing to identify a certain species of wood. Screen samples and information for nearly 160 different types of wood from across the globe guide users to correct wood identification.
iQuick Estimator: Highly useful, this application is able to perform basic estimates for concrete, drywall, flooring, roofing, and paint. Once the estimate is calculated, the user is able to remotely and immediately submit it to a client.

What I love about this article is the way that you have thought about the needs of a specific industry - truth is that irrespective of what phone you select there are plenty of applications available to suit it, including specialist ones.
