Performance Coaching

The help provided by a supervisor to his subordinate in analyzing their performance and other behaviors on the job in order to improve their performance is known as performance coaching. The performance coaching process has the following three phases:-

Rapport Building: This phase involves generating confidence in the employee to open up and frankly share his perceptions, problems and concerns etc.
Exploration: In this stage the employee discloses his own weaknesses and identifies his problem.
Action Planning: In the action planning phase, the coach and the employee jointly work out or plan specific action steps for the development of the latter
Performance coaching is helping the individual to grow and develop in the organization. Every manager is coaching his employee, knowingly or unknowingly in his day to day work life. The coach helps the individual to become more aware of their strength and weakness and helps them to improve further on the strong points and overcome weakness. To improve the performance of individual mutuality and support between the coach and individual is very necessary.

Performance coaching is more than training; its about developing the full potential of employees, helping to identify and grow the personality and performance strengths

Performance coaching is very important as it helps the employee to realize their potentials, knowing their weakness and to grow and develop. Although performance coaching is a relativley new term but the mangers are doing performance coaching knowingly or unknowingly since management started. Some performance coaching can focus on top performers to keep them engaged, motivated and focused on their core strengths.

In short, performance coaching is a step-by-step coaching process to help executives, managers and employees improve overall team performance and productivity. Performance coaching focuses on improving performance at work.
