Some studies have found positive effects and some have found negative effects.

Till this point we stressed the impact of organisation structure on employee behaviour

This is important as it helps us better understand what is likely to happen when people work in various structures. However, the picture about the effect of structure is not complete by focusing only on employee behaviour. It is necessary to study its effect on performance and satisfaction also.

Shapes their attitudes and facilities and motivates employees to higher level;s of performance

It may be claimed that the extent to which an organisation structure reduces ambiguity for an employee and clarifies problems -
What am I supposed to do?
How am I supposed to do it?'
Whom do I report to?
Whom do I go to if I have a problem?- shapes their attitudes and facilities and motivates employees to higher level;s of performance.

The relationship between structural variables like span of control

Beyond this it is difficult to assert categorically the positive effect of organisation structure on performance. This is so because there are conflicting findings about the relationship between structural variables like span of control, subunit size, specialization, centralization vs. Decentralization, and the like and employee performance. Some studies have found positive effects and some have found negative effects.

I have worked in companies with no organisational structure to define the scalar line of reporting and it is havoc wherein everyone does what they want to do and getting the company into receivership not once but twice.
Now how does it bring in performance???
Simple it creates a hierarchy and definitive timelines that would help in the governance of the organisation wherein everything works in accordance to a Supply chain wherein people work and do their own thing but at the same time have a single point of contact within the organisation to report all their departmental operational related needs using Change Requests or a DL email to communicate depending on the type of material it is.

I call those who don't follow the supply chain or scalar reporting techniques Daddy Yankees who regress the company and need to be done away with.

I speak this as a Restructuring Specialist.
