How to Increase Your Twitter Followers

If you want to promote your business online, then you have to build up a good reputation. Twitter is a good tool for you to use. The key is to get people to follow you. Before people will do this, you need to have something worth following, so first impressions are crucial.

Don't Let Your First Impression Be Your Worst Impression

Think of Twitter in the same way that you would a job interview. You wouldn't walk into an office, slump down in the chair. Start picking your nose and then pass wind, would you! That was a terrible exaggeration. But do you get the point?

Have a look at these two Twitter profiles:-

1. Wife to an amazing husband and Mom to 2 beautiful girls! Senior Consultant and Recruiter with The Pampered Chef. I can help you transform your kitchen!

2. Married. Gossip and slave

Both are okay. But which one would be a more inviting one to follow?

Number one!

Try and write as much as you can about yourself in your profile description. It is the window to you.

Your Profile Picture

What does your profile picture say about you?

Did I hear you say that you’re too shy for profile pics?

Don't worry. You'll just get less followers, that's all. (Yes, that was sarcasm)

For those extroverts who are using profile pictures, don't use one of those ‘sideways glance’ photos.

A good quality - ‘look you in the eye’ photo would be the best. A photo where you are looking directly into the lens.

It will give your followers a sense of knowing who you are. They will warm to you, which will incline them to follow you more.

If you really struggle with the idea of putting a photo of yourself, then make sure the avatar is a good quality & inviting photo. If you are a writer, it could be an italic fountain pen or something like that.

Tweet Good Stuff

This goes without saying, but it can be so hard. Everyone wants the best tweets and someone else always gets there first.

A good sense of humour helps.Or hunt around the Internet until you find something funny, weird or NEW.

Tweet Various Subjects

Okay, we know you are a plumber and you are trying to promote your business, that's fine, but don't bore everyone with how to power flush a radiator.

Be Personal

This one is always a winner. Are you brave enough to talk about your personal life in detail? This is a good way to build up an audience. People love real lives. That’s why they watch ‘reality TV.’

Have Good Links

Make sure your links are good ones, or you’ll end up like the ‘boy who cried wolf’ and no one will trust you again.

Tweet Regularly

If I see that someone hasn't tweeted for the past 6 months I don't even bother.

People don't want to follow a nobody.

Tweet at LEAST once a day.

Tweet at the RIGHT time

Depending on what country your followers are in, it's best to tweet when they’re around. The evening, after work is a good time. Remember the news feed scrolls down and your tweet could be long gone before your followers have even had a chance to sign in.

Use the #hashtag

The hashtag is an amazing tool.

Say you want to talk about the matter of LOVE.
Put the #hashtag symbol before that word #LOVE and it will take your tweet on to a page where everyone is tweeting about #LOVE.

Hashtagging is a brilliant way to gain connections. #####

Follow Others

Twitter is very much ‘you scratch my back and I will scratch yours’. When someone follows you, be obliging and follow them back.

Celebrity Followers

It’s a hard one, but if you can get a celebrity to follow you, that would be amazing. Speak to them. I have had a few conversations with Jermaine Jackson and others. Try it. You might be surprised.

Name Drop

Once you get celebrity followers -mention that in your profile. Nothing wrong with a bit of name dropping.

Retweet Good Tweets

What more can I say on this subject?

Only if they’re not bothering to follow you back. Unless of course you really don't want to. I follow Sky News, TMZ, Mysterious Facts. None of which follow me, but I will never unfollow. They provide me with some of my best tweets.

Follow the Auto Followers

Believe it or not, it will help get your name out there.

Keywords can even be used here. Say cars, is my passion, then that's my keyword and I will find others who like cars too. Be sure to use the hashtag.

Anyway, I think I have exhausted Twitter now.

Try these things and if they don't work - come back for a second helping. (that was a joke BTW. I have no second helping. SORRY.)

I never used Twitter because I am not really a big supporter of keeping tons of Accounts.

Right now, I am struggling with Pinterest. So maybe soon in future, I will give Twitter a try.

Anyway,Congrats on having Star Page :)
