How To Use Social Media To Build Business Relationships

Social media has become an important aspect of doing business in the modern world. Unfortunately, most companies perceive these social forums as one giant scoreboard where the team with most followers carry the day. The reality is that nothing can be further from the truth. Just because people like your page does not mean that they will convert into paying customers. What matters is the ability of a company or brand to build relationships with people. This is what influences return on investment (ROI). Here is how to use social media to build business relationships:
Get personal

Most brands use social media platforms in the same way they interact with people on other channels: using high-level professionalism and hiding behind company logos. And they wonder why they fail miserably on social media.

On social platforms, people love transparency, after all they have interacted with thousands of ads in the past and most of the ads do not live up to their word. If you are unable to respond in person to every query, have multiple people in your company access your social account. Alternatively, have your employees use a combination of usernames that combine their names and your brand. Whichever approach you choose, make sure your prospects are not interacting with a brand, instead, they should be interacting with real people using their real names.

Send messages

Once in a while, find a reason to engage with your audience and send them a message. The main point of this gesture is to maintain an open channel of communication and does not have to be profound. A simple "happy birthday" is usually good enough. However, avoid making the messages about you, rather, they should reflect your concern for your followers.
Maximize your time

Your presence on social media is as important as your interactions with clients. Since you may not have 24 hours daily to spend on social platforms, there are a number of tools you can use to maximize your presence. These include Sprout Social,HootSuite and SocialOomph.

Give your audience a reason to pay attention

Always let your audience know why you are on social media and what makes you unique. Though most people in your circle may still continue to follow you even when you are not very active, having followers who have forgotten you are there is not the best use of a social platform. Make sure you post something on your wall or front page regularly to help your followers learn something new about you.

Appreciate your followers

Whenever you hit a milestone or achieve a business goal, appreciate and thank your followers since they have made it possible for your brand to get there. One of the easy ways to do this is by sending virtual thank-you cards to all your followers. Personalize each card by including the follower's name and have someone from your company sign the card. This may be a simple gesture but it will resonate with your audience and enhance your relationship with them.

Ultimately, your social media and relationship building strategy will determine your return on investment (ROI).So, do not just get excited at the numbers. Instead, seek to enhance the quality of your interactions with your audience and you will be good to go.
