Do you have an online store? If so, you probably have some great products. But if your product descriptions aren't the best, they're not doing their job. So here are the signs that they aren't what they should be.
- 1. They Don't Exist
- 2. They are too Short
- 3. They are too Long
- 4. They're Poorly Written
- 5. They're Generic
- 6. They're Full of Jargon
- 7. There Aren't Any Adjectives
- I can help
1. They Don't Exist
Seriously, your products need to be described. Otherwise no one knows anything about the items you are selling. The first step to making sure that your product descriptions are good is to actually have product descriptions.
2. They are too Short
You don't want to write a novel, of course, but you need more than a sentence to describe your products. Even the basic information that you want to include will take at least two sentences.
3. They are too Long
Remember that novel I mentioned in number 2? Yeah, you don't want that. First of all, it might bore your visitors to death. Dead people don't buy products. Second of all, they don't have the time to read it.
4. They're Poorly Written
Just like with your other website content, you want to make sure that you use proper spelling and grammar in your descriptions. Otherwise you'll look unprofessional to your visitors.
5. They're Generic
Seriously, I don't know why people think this is a good idea. Re-sellers, I'm looking at you. You're selling something that thousands of other websites on the Internet are selling and you think it's a good idea to use the generic product descriptions? You have to show why people should buy from you rather than them!
6. They're Full of Jargon
The last thing you want is to make your customers feel dumb. So don't fill your descriptions with the jargon they won't understand.
7. There Aren't Any Adjectives
Adjectives are what hooks people to your products. A chocolate cupcake may be enticing, but a sinful, velvety smooth, decadent chocolate cupcake sounds even better. See what a difference it makes?
