Why Microworkers Could be Your Favorite Site (From an Employer’s Perspective)

After spending some time on several micro-crowdsourcing platforms as a Worker trying to make some quick bucks here and there, I also started to use the same platforms every time I needed some small tasks done fast and for little cost. A virtual assistant is too expensive and elaborate for my needs. I have ran several campaigns, oftentimes the same campaign on different programs to see where I get the better results.

I have selected 3 different places I have thoroughly tested along with my feedbacks on each:

1. MTurk (Mechanical Turk) – My experience with Mturk is pretty good as the turnaround rate is fast. That is because they have practically thousands and thousands of Workers willing to take on your assigned tasks anytime. Unfortunately, it invites a lot of spam too. Another downside is that many of the Workers on Mechanical Turk are not native English speakers, so you may want to stick to tasks that don’t require a lot of English, such as liking a Facebook page or retweeting a message.

2. Minute Workers – Here, approval of your submission is pretty fast. Only for me to arrive at a conclusion that campaigns are either automatically approved by their system, or they are manually approved yet not well-scrutinized. Once I submitted my campaign, it just gets thrown out there. With the lack of proper review process, campaigns are just piled these, unorganized. As they lack geo-targeting feature, you get a lot of undesirable Workers performing your task no matter how you indicate in your campaign that you require only certain countries for your job. They do have a cool feature that allows Employers to place campaigns under featured jobs (for $2). But with all the spam coming in, it’s not really worth spending an extra $2. You are given the option to restart finished campaigns at a later time.

3. Microworkers –Microworkers have a smart geo-targetting feature that not only allows you to select countries, but also to exclude some countries if you choose to run it under the International zone. Unlike Minute Workers, your campaign, once active, are only displayed to Workers to which you targeted your campaign to. This way, you do not have to weed out from tons of spam. If your campaign requires better English, you can choose workers from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, or Australia.

What makes this website really cool is their Hiregroup category where you can create your group (of selected favorite Workers) or pre defined groups (from Microworkers rating system, displaying those who have high success rate in performing tasks) that allows you to assign jobs only to Workers of your choice.

In Hiregroup, you have the option to upload a CSV file when your campaign requires different information to be displayed to each Worker. Results can also be downloaded in CSV file format (Excell Spreadsheet).
