Facebook marketing for small business

Facebook has over 800 million users! Wow! Just think about that number for a minute....

Many small businesses are enjoying the benefits of being on Facebook to market their products or services.

Facebook is a great way for businesses to:

interact with past customers
Get instant feedback
Do immediate product launches and reaches thousands of people instantly
Add visual impact to their marketing
Provide valuable information to a prospective market
These are just some of the many benefits of small business marketing on Facebook.

But there are some rules business should follow to get the most from their social media presence, lets take a look:

Reply to posts individually. This means not giving a blanket response to a common query or even critical feedback.

Don't just use marketing flyers as visual images. This indicates a lack of thought. Facebook users want to see carefully thought out marketing messages not just generic flyers they would see in their junk mail. Facebook is a unique platform and should be used to make marketing unique.

Utilise trust marketing. This is so much more than just doing a direct sell of a product or service. Social media marketing is all about building relationships and trust. This means demonstrating credibility and expertise in the marketplace.

Update regularly. This means your readers get reminded of you and product or service upgrades. Don't over do it, I'd say a post a day is more than enough.

Be aware of high read times. In other words what time of day are most people on Facebook? And what days of the week are most people on Facebook. The answers might surprise you. Wouldn't it be useful information to know though.

Only post on things relevant to your business/product or service.

Get rid of your business profile. What's that you say? Get rid a of my business profile! Yes that's right get rid your business profile. Why? Because if you have a business profile on Facebook you are in direct violation of Facebook terms and conditions. Facebook says only individuals can have profiles, everyone else for commercial purposes must have a page. All this outlined in the Facebook Help Centre.

Facebook don't take kindly to violations of their terms and conditions and use a variety of sanctions at their disposal to those who are doing the wrong thing...deliberately or otherwise. Worst case scenario is having your business profile shut down. Facebook are exercising this sanction on a daily basis.

Imagine if your business had thousands of 'friends' and they suddenly get wiped.

There's some good news. There is a simple 3 step process to convert from a business profile to a business page which takes minutes. If done correctly all your profile friends become page subscribers and no photos or msgs are lost.
