Moon
I love the moon at night. When I was little and my father worked away, he always told me that it was his job to turn the moon on. After mom would tuck me in, I'd steal away to the window and look to see if he'd remembered his job.
After all, it was a big responsibility! Turning on the moon. Sometimes I worried he'd forget. But he never did. Even on the black nights or foggy darknesses, he would assure the moon was on... it just wasn't available to my little eyes every night.
The moon I think of is a gentle full moon. One that lights the path for children coming home after dusk. Time for bike-rides was finished and bed time routines begun. Brush your teeth and then 'whoosh!' there it was. The moon. Turned on.
Thanks to my dad. The keeper of the moon.
P.S. Don't forget about tonight, Daddy.
